Reolink cameras are one of the most affordable yet feature-packed security cameras in the consumer market. Reolink cameras can be added to the Reolink App for iOS and Android or Reolink Client for Mac OS or Windows using the QR code or UID that is usually labeled at the back of the camera.
Although the UID makes adding cameras a breeze, it is a security vulnerability as well since anyone who has can physically access the camera, can reset it using the pinhole then use it as their own by adding the UID. In this case, the previous owner will lose access to the camera since it was reset and there’s no way to retrieve the camera such as find my device, etc.
What’s the solution?
Simple! Add the Reolink camera to your App or client software, save the QR code or UID then remove the label. This way there will not be an easy way for someone to reuse your camera.
Now, how can we add Reolink cameras to the Window client using UID?
Step 1:
Visit the link below and download the latest version of the Reolink Windows Client. Then install it.
Download Reolink’s Windows Client

Step 2:
Open the Reolink Windows Client then click on the “+” on the top right corner of the client.

Step 3:
In the window that opens, Click on UID then type or paste your camera UID in the field and press add.
An easy way to save the UID is to first scan the QR code at the back of the camera using your phone then copy the code that the camera reads.

Step 4:
In the next window, you will see a warning that reads “You are adding a battery-powered IP camera. To avoid battery drainage, please reduce the live viewing time”. Press “OK” to move to the next step.

Step 5:
Keep the username as “admin” and type or paste your “password”. If you are setting up the camera for the first time, in this step you have to set a new password for the camera. Then press “login” and you’re done.
The default username and password are admin.

Step 6:
After pressing the login you should see the live camera footage; however, if this does not happen make sure the camera is powered and connected to the Internet through WiFi, 4G, or Ethernet.
